Issue 2 of Personal Best

Issue 2 of Personal Best

Welcome back!

A month has flown by since Style PB launched and what a launch it was! Held at the Hoxton Hotel in London and attended by lots of amazing press and bloggers. Gabby from Secret Yoga Club taught two beautiful yoga classes which were accompanied by Bean on the hang drum. Look this up if you haven’t heard of it - it makes such a soothing sound! After the yoga classes everyone was treated to a nourishing drink by the fabulous guys at ‘Everything But The Cow’. All who attended left with a fab gift bag that was overflowing with goodies! Our amazing sponsors were the great guys from Rude Health, 6 Vitamin Shot, Primal Snack box, Mio Skincare and Vitamin Water. Morning attendees were lucky enough to get a super healthy juice from the new and trendy cold pressed juice company ‘Press London’, check them out if you are anywhere near Piccadilly station.
So since the launch it’s been super busy with orders flying out the door! We’ve also added two fantastic new labels to our designers. First Michi, which has come all the way over from Canada. This brand is made for women who love their mesh! Super luxurious fabrics, combined with stunning design details make this brand a must have for your gym wardrobe.
Next we’ve added a new British brand No Jiggle. The lovely Hannah who is also a Pilates teacher started the brand. We’re slightly obsessed with how good her Fifi leggings make your bum look! Don’t believe us? Just wait till you try them!
And lastly for our blog interview this month, we’ve spoken to the incredible Carly Rowena. If you haven’t heard of her already she’s a personal trainer with a great blog and a very popular Youtube channel. She’s got abs to die for, a great sense of humour and is a strong and successful woman! She’s a very inspiring lady to follow.
So enjoy! If you have any suggestions or comments we would love to hear from you.

Interview with Carly Rowena

Best thing about being a personal trainer?

There are so many amazing moments with the job but my favourite has to be when they send you a photo of them feeling the best they’ve ever felt on the beach, in underwear or after crossing that finishing line.

What’s been your Personal Best achievement?

Challenge wise, jumping 200ft into London docklands during the river rat race was pretty big for me. Weight wise: pressing 245kg on the incline leg press. Cardio, spriniting for 30 seconds on the top level during a HIIT workout.

What does an average day look like for you?

I usually get up at 5am have mango and Greek yoghurt and head off to see my first clients. I have a 2 hour gap around 11 which is when I’ll train myself, have a shower, a quick bite to eat and see a couple more clients before lunch. I like to have my space away from the gym so I can refresh and breath. I’ll quickly chop up whatever we have in the fridge and put it in the slow cooker for later and head back to the gym and finish around 9.30pm. Then it’s shower, dinner and bed ready for that 5am alarm again.

How do you find balance in life?

It’s hard and something I am yet to master. I recently suffered with adrenal fatigue as a result of ignoring my body so it’s forced me to have to re-think how I schedule my days. I now try to keep Tuesday mornings free for my blog and emails and Friday afternoons free to film and edit. You never know what to expect with social media or the emails you receive, I can have my whole week planned and then suddenly have to squeeze in a London trip- It’s exhausting but I’ve never been happier.

What’s next for Carly Rowena?

I haven’t a clue and that’s what I love about my job, it changes daily. I have lots of plans but I’m holding them close to my chest. If I want to train and meet as many of my followers as possible then I need to get my butt around the world!

Words of encouragement for women looking to get into personal training?

Find what makes you a good trainer. It doesn’t have to be your fitness abilities. It could be the way you make your clients feel, how you listen, how you sculpt their workouts, whatever it is, build on it and show the world how unique you are.

Best sports event you have ever entered?

I was lucky enough to take on the first ever British Tough Mudder, I absolutely adored it, I’ve booked to do it again this November. That said I couldn’t stop grinning during the ColourRun and the best part was my 67 year old mum joined me!

If someone’s only got 5 mins, what’s the best exercise they can do?

Burpees, love them of hate them, they get your whole body moving and after 5 minutes you’ll be ready for a break!

Best thing about being strong as a woman?

Understanding what my body is capable of, I never knew I could use my body in the ways I do now AND the food shop isn’t quite as painful on the arms!

Best piece of advice?

“You were born to be human, not perfect.” It keeps me grounded when I feel like I’m not doing well enough or when I’ve taken on too much.

Carly’s picks:

Charli Cohen: Velocity Legging, Charli’s designs are incredible and the quality of her fabrics are unbelievable. I wouldn’t just wear these leggings to the gym, they’d be coming on nights out too!

Lexi sport Diana Shorts: I have these and they receive so many compliments. They’re soft and comfortable and actually protect your modesty, no matter how many squats you do!

Striders Edge purple sports bra: If you’re trying to get Abs, you need to see what you’r working with, which is why I always encourage my clients to train in just their sports crop. This one has padding and is a lovely shape.
